The Third Eye Chakra (also referred to as the Brow Chakra) is located on the forehead, between the eyes. Called “Anja” in Sanskrit, the Third Eye Chakra is associated with the color indigo and is the center of intuition and psychic powers. This chakra is our avenue to wisdom as it allows us to learn from our experiences and putting them in perspective.
Those that have a balanced Third Eye Chakra are charismatic, are open to guidance, do not fear death and have no attachment to material objects. This chakra allows us to see a clear picture (both figuratively and literally), and lords over our wisdom, understanding intellect, and mental abilities. Those that are particularly in tune with their Third Eye Chakra will experience psychic powers, strong intuition, and can even tune into their past lives.
Those with excessive energy in their Third Eye Chakra tend to have high egos and are manipulative, proud, and have demanding personalities. Additionally, an overactive Third Eye Chakra will cause people to become religiously dogmatic or experience psychic overload.
On the other end of the spectrum, those that have deficient energy in their Third Eye Chakra tend to be undisciplined, overly sensitive, have a difficult time asserting themselves and have a fear of success. Forgetfulness is also quite common, as is self-doubt and inability to trust personal instinct.

The Third Eye Chakra reins over several glands and body parts, including the pineal and pituitary glands, brain, eyes, ears and nose. Those that have an ill-functioning Third Eye Chakra will experience physical symptoms such as confusion, mental illness, chronic headaches, poor eyesight, lack of clarity, and psychic exhaustion.
In severe cases, physical dysfunctions include brain tumors, strokes, blindness, deafness, seizures, learning disabilities, spinal issues, panic and depression. This is why it’s important to know how to heal and open your chakras.
How To Heal And Strengthen Your Third Eye Chakra
If you’ve discovered that your Third Eye Chakra is malfunctioning after experiencing one of the aforementioned physical, emotional or spiritual ailments, you’ll want to learn how to go about healing your chakra in order to center yourself and bring wellness back into your life. Fortunately, there are several ways to stimulate or center your Third Eye Chakra.
If you are looking to strengthen and balance your Third Eye Chakra, azurite, lapis lazuli, moonstone and star sapphire should be either carried in your pocket or worn as jewelry. If you’re in need of gemstones to help tone down and balance an overactive Third Eye Chakra, you’ll want to turn to citrine (of a yellow-orange tone) or tiger’s eye (of a more yellowish tone). When using gemstones, it’s important that you select genuine gemstones and NOT man made or synthetic.
Wild Oat, Queen Anne’s Lace and Madia all help to strengthen an underactive Third Eye Chakra. Simply dab the essence of these flowers over your chakra.
Many are surprised to learn that foods can help open and strengthen an under active chakra. The Third Eye Chakra responds well to dark bluish colored foods such as blueberries, red grapes, blackberries, red wine, and grape juice. In addition, spices such as lavender, poppy seed and mugwort can also be used.
One of the best ways to open your Third Eye Chakra is through meditation. Simply sit cross-legged and fold your hands (as if in prayer) leaving your pinky fingers pointing straight out and pressed against each other. In addition, your right thumb should be crossed over your left. Focus on your Crown Chakra, the functions that it reins over and how it is affecting your life. While in this state, chant the sound “NG”. Continue this meditation until you feel clean, centered and at peace.
